Redemption of Waste

For over 175 years, the name "Garnett" has been synonymous with the transformation of "Waste into Wealth." Explore the definitive chapter in the history of the industrial revolution.

Terminology

To Garnett

The act of pulling apart textile waste, a term so ubiquitous it entered the global vocabulary.

Product

Garnetted Waste

The high-quality recycled fiber produced by our specialized machines.

International

Garnettage

The official term adopted by the French textile industry to describe our unique process.

1850

The "Master Patent"

Mr. Peter Garnett of Otley introduces Garnett Wire. This revolutionary saw-tooth wire enabled the textile industry to redeem valueless scrap into valuable raw materials, giving birth to the term 'Garnetted Waste'. Unlike contemporary card clothing, it was all-steel and wound into spiral grooves on rollers.

1878

Innovation in Cleckheaton

Mr. J.H. Leather, managing partner, introduces a landmark advancement: a method for putting clothing on in double rows (A and B wires). This allowed rollers to be covered with wire twice as fine, enabling the processing of much finer materials.

1897

Limited Incorporation

The company was incorporated as a limited company, cementing its position as a key industrial player in Cleckheaton, the 'card clothing capital of the world'.

1937

The Global Standard

By its 87th anniversary, the firm had established itself as the world's leading specialist in waste opening machinery, taker-in rollers, and burring apparatus, with machines predominating in four continents.

1991

Modern Evolution

Garnett Wire Ltd is formally incorporated in its modern structure, carrying forward the 'Master Patent' heritage into the contemporary era of precision manufacturing, operating from sites like Stone Street and Paragon Works.

Recent

A New Era in Elland

Relocated headquarters and servicing facilities to the Ainley Industrial Estate in Elland. This strategic shift modernizes operations while remaining at the heart of the West Yorkshire textile corridor, west of its traditional Cleckheaton home.
